"But when Jesus heard it he said, “This illness does not lead to death. It is for the glory of God, so that the Son of God may be glorified through it.” -John 11:4

Lazarus would not stay dead. His story was meant to bring glory to God and to the Son, Jesus. And what a grand story of the life-giving voice of Jesus it is!

This is our story too. We might not be in literal grave clothes; but before Christ, we were enrobed in our own filth, sin, and sure death. Through Christ's work on the cross, those dirty clothes have been cast off. We have been now dressed in righteousness and the gleaming perfection of Jesus. Just like with Lazarus, our story is not just about us; it is about bringing God glory.

Today you will have the opportunity to live out different stories. You could wade back into the destructive patterns of your former life, or you can know who you are in Christ and wear his righteousness as he transforms you more into his likeness. Choose the way of Jesus. For you, it is freedom, good, and the ultimate glory of God.
