Fervent Petitioners

Pastor Jonathan’s Monday reflection.

Continue steadfastly in prayer, being watchful in it with thanksgiving.” - Colossians 4:2

Preaching on prayer seems like a pretty safe objective for a pastor of an evangelical church. It is an expected topic and rightly so since it comes up in Scripture so often. As a matter of fact, we might even use prayer as a mark of our Christianity - I do it so I must be one!

All of the expectation and familiarity with the topic aside, what would it really look like if we, like the church in Acts 12, fervently prayed on behalf of the ministry of the gospel in our community? We might have the best communications strategy, graphics, humor or sick (as in good) band, but what would we be without prayer?

Jesus gives us a Helper, the Holy Spirit, to dwell in us and fill us that we might pray. That our petitions would match his prayers at the throne of grace. That we would be made part of his purpose as we ask, over and over again, for his grace to flow over dry spiritual ground.

This is what we desire for Reservoir Church. To be a praying church. To be warriors on behalf of those far from God, for churches proclaiming the gospel, and for each other in or community of believers.

What do you want to unleash in prayer? How can engage, partner with others and petition the Lord?

Let’s do it together.
