“So then, the law was our guardian until Christ came, in order that we might be justified by faith. But now that faith has come, we are no longer under a guardian, for in Christ Jesus you are all sons of God, through faith.” -Galatians 3:24–26
The distinction between the law and the grace of the Gospel here is maturity. Under the law, humanity needed it as a guide, an aspiration to watch over us. We needed it keep us primed for our need for a savior, One who could meet its demands on our behalf. But now in faith, it is as if grace has grown us up, and we no longer need a guardian. We have freedom to live in the grace that Christ gives, and we are part of his family.
Guardians keep you in life. Grace keeps you for eternity. This is the difference that Jesus came to make real. The weight has been lifted, and you are meant to live in your sonship.
Earning is over; all has been given to you. Let that truth lighten your load today and put a spring in your step.
