“Show us your steadfast love, O LORD, and grant us your salvation. Let me hear what God the LORD will speak, for he will speak peace to his people, to his saints; but let them not turn back to folly.” -Psalm 85:7–8
One of the more normative things about life as a human, no matter what time in history you live, there is always uncertainty, rejection of God and his people. This is still true in our time.
To that reality, the Word of God speaks something better. His faithfulness, his never-stopping love goes on; in this gift of salvation, he speaks peace to his people, a peace that motivates our continued pursuit of him.
We can mistakenly listen to all kinds of other messages, less redeeming and certainly less authoritative, but it is when we tune in and hear what the LORD will speak that our lives begin to fire on all cylinders. In Christ he has spoken a word of forgiveness, of security, of permanent salvation. In Christ he has called us his own, his very children set for our share of an inheritance. In Christ he has called us good, wearing the righteousness of Jesus.
Now from those words we can live, not to turn back toward the folly that once held us captive, but to press on after Jesus, empowered by his Spirit. Today, hear what the Lord will speak over you. Rejoice in him and live.
