Leap

“For behold, when the sound of your greeting came to my ears, the baby in my womb leaped for joy.” Luke 1:44

Mary, pregnant, expectant physically and spiritually, visits her cousin Elizabeth, who is also with child, to share in the promise that has been given. Her cousin's welcome is telling of how we should respond to the entrance of Jesus into our lives. “Blessed are you among women, and blessed is the fruit of your womb!” Elizabeth's baby leaps for joy in her womb when Mary (and Jesus) enter the room (Luke 1:42-44).

John the Baptist, his spirit sensing The Spirit, leaps with joy at his coming. Then Mary shares her excitement and how her spirit rejoices in God her savior.

This is a wondrous account of the anticipation surrounding Jesus, but I also think it is a confirmation for us. It confirms that we can leap a little when Jesus approaches us!

I know the image seems silly, and we want to be good reserved people not making a scene. But come on. This is the Savior of the world! The One that took your place living a perfect life and dying an innocent death — so that you could be in relationship with God. Leaping is totally appropriate. Smiles should form on our face at recounting the grace we are given over and over again. Our steps can be lighter; our songs, a little louder.

In Jesus, you have won the cosmic lottery, and nothing can separate you from the prize — Jesus himself. Why not jump a little today in joy over that gift. Tell Jesus you are excited about him. And hear him tell you how excited he is about you.
